If I thought that the first book was good, I was blown away by this one!
It picks up, roughly, where the first book leaves off. There are slight spoilers for that ending, but not for the general plot of the first book.
After Mini and Aru go through their first adventure after finding out they’re reincarnations of the Pandava brothers (this time, Pandava sisters!) they discover the third one of their bunch. Brynne. And, believe it or not, the boy that Aru totally isn’t crushing on, Aiden, is friends with Brynne.
I’m not going to get into the plot because, for me, that wasn’t my main focus of the book. It’s middle-grade, which I’m not the target audience for by a long shot, so I don’t think it’d be fair if I dug into it too much. I will say that it was extremely fun to read and I loved the twists and turns as they came. It was, honestly, just an enjoyable read that I devoured in two days flat.
But, what stood out for me were the friendships in this book. Mini and Aru continuing to develop their friendship from the first point, seeing the strong and the weak points of it. Mini, Aru, and Brynne getting to know each other — including Brynne revealing things about herself. Aru and Brynne having that rocky start and seeing as it develops from there. Aru and Aiden not having a romantic relationship. Aiden and Brynne and their long-standing friendship.
There were just so many fun middle-grade friendships that it was very interesting to read all of them intertwining and watch as they changed like any friendship will do during that time. I also loved that there wasn’t a focus on relationships. Because, if this was YA, there probably would have been a love triangle between Aru, Aiden, and Brynne. And, I’m not here for that. I don’t really need romance in my books for me to love them, so this was just a lovely, refreshing read for me. It just reminds me why I should take the time to read more middle-grade since I always enjoy it so much!
All of that being said, I’m so damn excited for the third book. I cannot wait to see what happens in the next book.
