Final Unsolvedathon check-in

Copy of Copy of Copy of Copy of Top Ten Tuesday

I had one more book to read for this and here we are! Let’s just say, it didn’t go like I wanted it to. But, I’ve read 10/10 of the books I set my mind to.

When the Sky Fell on Splendor by Emily Henry

When the Sky Fell on Splendor

DNF at 60ish pages – 1/5

Yeah. I’d been anticipating this book because it was pitched as a Stranger Things mashup. I love that show, but this book didn’t work for me at all. Therefore, I have to use (a surprisingly fitting) cheat.

This alien transports me elsewhere, so I’m now done with the readathon! Thanks little dude.

But, back to the book.

Right away, I was turned off by it. I nearly stopped reading after the first chapter, but I made myself keep going since I thought it had potential to turn into a story I’d like. It didn’t, obviously.

For one, there were way too many characters. I don’t even think I got them all down because they all blended together. There was just too large of a group for me, especially since they were indistinguishable most of the time.

Then, there was too much going on. As I was trying to figure out who the hell they were, there was flashbacks from the MC talking about stuff that happened to her other brother, then we were back in time. Then there was explaining stuff about another character’s family when I couldn’t even get down who this character was.

I just hit a point where I knew it wasn’t going to work for me and decided to put it down. I’m sure that it will be loved by many people, but I’m just not one of them.

Talk to me!
Have you read this?
What did you think? Am I the only dissenting opinion?

  1. I also didn’t connect with this book as much as I thought I would. Definitely too many characters. I did finish it and thought it was decent, but the end was disappointing. Still need to write a review, but will probably be 2 or 3 stars only.
