Book review – Hidden Bodies by Caroline Kepnes

Caidyn's review (1)

Hidden Bodies (You, #2)

CW: stalking, murder, attempted murder, and mention of animal cruelty

This is one of the few times I’ll say this for the blog: This review was first on Goodreads!

I received an ARC from Netgalley back when this first came out. Still a huge thank you to them! But, I reread it and ended up really enjoying it more than I did the first time. I think that’s because I had less expectations going into it since I already knew that it was very different than You.

But, anyways, here’s my review!

Ever since we met
I only shoot up with your perfume
It’s the only thing
That makes me feel as good as you do

*Not from this book, but the chorus to Nearly Witches (Ever Since We Met) by Panic! at the Disco.

Oh, Joe. What can I say about you? You likely have narcissistic personality disorder, maybe even bipolar mood disorder. You’re utterly insane, you crazed stalker. But, oh how I love you. Oh, how I love reading what’s gone on in your life. I even find myself rooting for you, wanting you to kill people. That’s awful of me to do that, and I know it. However, I just can’t keep myself from doing it. Your story is utterly addictive. You’re terrifying yet adorable.

I will admit, it took me forever to read this. November 2015 to January 2016? Pathetic. I blame my crazy schedule… and because I just suck at life. This is published in February, I have it pre-ordered to deliver to my Kindle on the day it’s released, so I don’t really have to read this by the date. So, I sort of put it to the backburner compared to my studies and other, more pertinent, books I had to read.

Throughout the book, I wavered between three and four stars. Compared to You, the plot meandered. It wasn’t terribly tight and half the time I wondered where the hell we were going on this journey of yours, Joe. I worried, actually. Because, I wanted to love this book just as much as I loved You. On the other hand, I really enjoyed some of where it meandered. Loved the characters introduced and each little thing that got me worried. Hell, again I was rooting for you, Joe, to kill certain people, feeling like an exasperated parent.

Yes, yes I will, Joe.

Talk to me!
Have you read this? What did you think?
Did you like this as much as You or a little less?
