First Lines Fridays is a weekly feature for book lovers hosted by Wandering Words. What if instead of judging a book by its cover, its author or its prestige, we judged it by its opening lines?
- Pick a book off your shelf (it could be your current read or on your TBR) and open to the first page
- Copy the first few lines, but don’t give anything else about the book away just yet – you need to hook the reader first
- Finally… reveal the book!
As she woke up in the pod, she remembered three things. First, that she was traveling through open space. Second, she was about to start a new job, one she could not screw up. Third, she had bribed a government official into giving her a new identity file. None of this information was new, but it wasn’t pleasant to wake up to.
This is a very popular adult sci-fi book. Legitimately, everyone and their mother (also, my mom and dad) recommended this book to me because it’s just that popular. And, like always, I put it off as long as possible and now I’m getting to it.
I started this last weekend and I’m currently blown away by it. This is such a fun book! I’m branching out into sci-fi
as I say for the millionth time but, so far, I haven’t really gone for alien creatures. So this is a first for me! But, thus far, it’s done really well and I already have a buddy read set up for the sequel.
