First Lines Fridays is a weekly feature for book lovers hosted by Wandering Words. What if instead of judging a book by its cover, its author or its prestige, we judged it by its opening lines?
- Pick a book off your shelf (it could be your current read or on your TBR) and open to the first page
- Copy the first few lines, but don’t give anything else about the book away just yet – you need to hook the reader first
- Finally… reveal the book!
And on the second day things did not get better. The rain fell hard and cold, the white sun never broke through the low grey cloud, and they were lost. But it was the dead thing they found hanging from a tree that changed the trip beyond recognition. All four of them saw it at the same time.
This holiday season, I seem to keep reading horror books. Apparently, that’s how my Christmas cheer works, but, you know, I’ve been reading some really good ones! This is a very interesting book that was made into a Netflix Original movie. I actually fell asleep while watching it, so I decided I’d read the book sometime soon just so I can rewatch the movie with new eyes.
Now, I don’t think this is a perfect book. I’m enjoying it, but it’s not amazing me. I’m hoping that the last quarter of the book ends up amazing me, otherwise it’s going to be a pretty average finish.
Have you read this? Did you watch the movie?
Tell me what you thought!
