2/5 – DNF at 59%
I love Charles Dickens and, despite DNFing this book, I will come back to it and read it at some point. All of these caveats, I know. For me, this wasn’t a bad book. It had Dickens’ usual marks all over it. Verbose, quirky characters, nothing really going on but it still being pretty interesting.
What my DNF comes down to is that I was bored and wasn’t in the right mood for Dickens. I couldn’t find myself able to care about the characters or story. In fact, I was looking for some kind of plot. But nothing surfaced after getting so far into the book. That’s when I realized it was basically like David Copperfield.
I definitely enjoyed David Copperfield. It was an interesting read and I loved how it went down a winding path. However, I was more looking for a classic book with a definite plot and some interesting things going on. This wasn’t it.
Perfect winter read, but not this winter. I’ll try it again in another year or so.
