Down the TBR Hole

Down the TBR Hole

Down the TBR Hole is a meme created by Lia @ Lost in a Story.

Most of you probably know this feeling, your Goodreads TBR pile keeps growing and growing and it seems like there is no light at the end of the tunnel. You keep adding, but you add more than you actually read. And then when you’re scrolling through your list, you realize that you have no idea what half the books are about and why you added them. Well that’s going to change!

IT WORKS LIKE THIS:

  • Go to your Goodreads to-read shelf.
  • Order on ascending date added.
  • Take the first 5 (or 10 if you’re feeling adventurous) books. Of course if you do this weekly, you start where you left off the last time.
  • Read the synopses of the books
  • Decide: keep it or should it go?

Astonish Me

Yeahh, doesn’t sound like I’d enjoy it. But maybe I’ll tell my mom to look for it because it sounds like something she’d like!

Verdict: GO!

An Eye for an Eye

This is a pretty short book and it sounds okay, but I also don’t think it’s up my alley anymore.

Verdict: GO!

The World to Come

The story sounds super interesting. It sounds like an interesting journey to go on and the cover is totally intriguing.

Verdict: Keep

The Man Who Would Be Jack

I’ve never heard of Thomas Hayne Cutbush as a Ripper suspect, but that doesn’t necessarily surprise me since there are so many suspects out there. However, I don’t like books that come into it being definitive since we’ll never know the suspect for sure.

Verdict: GO!

The Memory Child

This book has been on my TBR for years and I still think it looks pretty interesting. I think that’s revolutionary in itself that I think a book looks good after so long.

Verdict: Keep

The Smartest Kids in the World: And How They Got That Way

Hm. Some part of me thinks that this would be helpful for me in the future (because, you never know when you’ll have to work with kids) but another part kind of wrinkles my nose because ew kids. For now…

Verdict: Keep

The Weight of Blood

Ugh, I hate when books describe themselves as another author. Especially Gillian Flynn. She’s a damn good author, but not every new author is like her or can do the same stuff she does. But, I gotta say, it sounds good.

Verdict: Keep

Orphan Train

Each time I try to remove this book, something in the back of my mind whispers: But it sounds like The Book Thief! And therefore I can’t remove it. Plus, it’s rated pretty high.

Verdict: Keep

The Art of Racing in the Rain

After reading Marley & Me no fiction book about dogs interests me because I don’t feel like crying my fucking eyes out.

Verdict: GO!

A History of Loneliness

Dammit, Boyne. Why do you have to write such good sounding books?

Verdict: Keep

Last TBR: 1945

Books kept: 6

Books removed: 4

Current TBR: 1939

YES. It keeps going down. Inch by inch. Little by little. One day it’ll be to a more manageable number.

Talk to me!
Have you read any of these books?
What did you think of them?
