The rules are:
- Pick one thing that you’re really into this week
- Gush about it
Literally, that’s it. That’s all you have to do for this.
It’s not exactly a tag so there aren’t huge rules. It’s more for Chantel and I to branch out into some new things. This was created as a book blog, but we love music, TV, movies, podcasts, video games, etc. And we want to talk about it more with you.
It’s just going to be Caidyn again!
Hm. I want to gush/rant about Supernatural for this one.
I’ve watched nearly all of the seasons. I love seasons 1-5. Don’t like season 6. Tolerate season 7. Mainly forget what the fuck happens in season 8. Like season 9-11.
And now I’m on season 12 and I’ve lost the motivation to watch more. Again.
I do like this show. I think that they have amazing characters and actors. Because of the way everyone loves the show, they get to do really creative things with the episodes. Such as the episode “Baby” from season 11 that is only filmed in the ’67 Chevy Impala, which is called baby by Dean.
1. There’s no diversity.
All the lead actors are cis-het men. Sam, Dean, Bobby (my love), Crowley, Castiel, etc. I could go on. The minority characters are rare. Female characters are typically villains. The female characters that aren’t usually are more motherly/sisterly characters. The only really confirmed queer character was brutally killed in the show by a guy who was for sure a rapist, so we never know what he really did to her before the death. (Discounting God saying He had girlfriends and boyfriends since it was a side comment.)
And POC characters? Let me try to remember them. Kevin Tran and his mom Ms Tran. Rufus. The one guy who was in This is Us. Oh, a Mexican hunter who was also gay.
That’s a major con for it.
2. It went on way past when it should.
Tbh, the show should have stopped at season five. That was the original plan for the show, too. It finished up the character arcs for the characters. Sam was able to be a forever martyr (sorry, I’m not a Sam fan even though I think that Jared Padalecki is amazing). Dean was able to get out of the life he’s always known and settle down like he wanted to. Cas could go back to heaven. Bobby could keep on with his curmudgeonliness.
But then it stretched on.
I thought, fine. Okay. Fine. I’m not a huge fan of seasons 6-8. They felt pointless. No real story arc. Nothing to combine them together. Finally, they got to season 9. They got to their stride again. Bringing back an old, timeless evil that threatens all in multiple seasons. Finally, an ambiguously evil female character that reminded me of Lucifer.
Then it had a fucking lame-ass ending.
The queerbaiting. Both the cast and episodes play on Dean and Castiel, called Destiel.
UGH. I literally hate the ship. I hate the shippers. I hate the show for deciding to just tease us, much like what happened with John and Sherlock. (Do not even get me started on the fucking Johnlock Conspiracy.) It’s disgusting. And I hate it.
It literally pisses me the fuck off whenever I’m forced to think about it.
Will I keep watching the show? Maybe.
Am I pissed off about the things in the show? Definitely.
Do I think it should end?
Do you watch/have you watched Supernatural?
What do you think of the show?
