June wrap-up

Wrap-up

The first thing we want to do is thank all of you so, so much! June has been our best month yet with views and comments and likes and everything else. Thank you all for your support and kind comments. We really appreciate every single thing you all do.

With that said, let’s get on to our wrap-up!

Caidyn will be in blue.

This month, we read Becoming a Visible Man and Harry Potter and the Goblet of Fire together! Reviews for those will be up in July.

We also continued on with our First Lines Friday series, as usual. Then, we did a couple of tags; The BW Mid Year Tag and Pride Flag Book Tag. If you haven’t seen them, check them out! We had a lot of fun doing them.

Next month, we’re also going to change something up! Instead of doing First Lines Friday every week, we’re dropping back to twice a month but we’re adding in something new.

It is…. Gushing With Caidyn and Chantel!

Well, that’s the working title. Basically, we’re going to take anything that we feel passionate about that week and just talk about it. Books, movies, TV, music, podcasts, etc. All those little things. If you have a better title, totally tell us it because we are crap at titles!

I read 21 books this month with an average of 2.79. I DNFed a lot of books and, sadly, the books I’m really enjoying are ones that I’ll be finishing and reviewing next month.

But, let’s break down my reads!

This was a highly anticipated read for me, but it fell flat. I gave it a 1.5/5. Why? Because I’m not into magical realism, it turns out.

I reread this childhood favorite and while I’m not sure if it’s a favorite anymore it still has a lot of great meaning and insight into grief. I gave it 4/5.

Another favorite for me, but omg was it bad. I gave it 1/5 because it felt almost insulting reading it. Did not age well.

This has been on my TBR for ages and it did not disappoint! It was a 4 star read for me!

Another 1.5/5 read for me. Apparently, I’m not a fan of The Ring series. At least the books. Still love the movies.

ARC – tbp 7/10!

I gave this a 4.5/5 because it was very good. A great thriller that actually made me think, which is such a nice change from the thrillers that are getting published now.

Sadly, a 1/5 for a book that had a lot of critical acclaim for M/M fiction before it was as popular as it is now.

Chantel gave me this recommendation and I gave it 4/5! Basically, a really good and quick read that gives all the feels.

Another reread for me, which I gave 3/5. In the review, I mentioned giving the sequel a go and hoping it was better. I didn’t review it at all, but I DNFed the sequel. Oops.

A new release that I gave 2/5 and DNFed. While it has a ton of diversity (bi, gay, curious, Muslim, black, etc) I just didn’t find the plot interesting.

ARC – tbp (or republished since Goodreads tells me it was published in 2001??) 7/24

Another DNF, which I gave 1/5. Just didn’t float my boat.

This is the first read for me and I’m not Muslim, so it was interesting for me. I gave it 3/5 and hope to reread it one day!

Another rec from Chantel which I gave 4.5/5. Super good! I actually want to own this one!

This is from my Top Ten books of 2018. Literally took me two months to read because the book is nearly 1000 pages. But, I gave it 4/5!

I got in the mood for some Stephen King, so I read this in one day and gave it 3.5/5. This is a short story that begs for more.

Another book based on my mood read, which I gave 3.5/5! It was good and interesting, something very different than King usually writes.

Please remind me not to read Weir’s fiction books. I gave this 1/5, which is actually what I’ve given the past two other books by Weir. So, yeah. Bleh. Do not recommend her.

When I had PageHabit’s mystery (the genre) subscription box, this was one of the books I got. I gave it 3.5/5 and thought it was good, but I wanted a little bit more oomph to it.

ARC – tbp 7/17

Another ARC, another DNF. I gave it 1/5 because I could feel myself getting pissed off about the misuse and misunderstanding of childhood psychological disorders that were being presented.

Yes, another reread! The link is to a review I wrote of it already. As every other time I’ve read this book, it gets a 5/5 from me.

ARC – tbp 8/31

This was a surprise ARC that I got, but it wasn’t exactly for me. It’s fine and I’d suggest it for people who want own voices for shamanism, but it didn’t exactly sound interesting to me. I gave it 2/5 stars!

Also, I did a few posts of Down the TBR Hole which is a whole lot of fun because I’m always horrified by the books I added years ago. Overall, it was a great month and I’m glad to have gotten through that many books.

Chantel had a bad reading month and didn’t finish any books this month, but she did continue her fantastic Soundtrack of My Life series! Which I love. She’s so passionate about music and loves talking about it. You can check them out here and here!
